A Justin & Selena Story Worth your Time

On November 1st, it was just a rumor, then, there were more than viable clues available to us by the pundits to confirm that this may be true.

Finally, it’s on November 2nd, 2017, that, with irrefutable evidence; the official news came out and broke the internet: Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez are officially back together.

How did this happen? I mean, what went through Selena’s mind to take him back and what really happened inside Justin’s cerebral cortex to find love again? Was it jealousy? Was it finding comfort in what they already know about one another? Was the sexual connection that good? What words were used to finalize the decision? Was Patron involved? These are vital questions that needs to be answered and they need to be answered now.

Recently, I decided to Google “Justin & Selena back together” and started going through the infinite number of pages concerning this matter.

I was able to find some relevant information about what may or may not have happened. Ok. Great.

Now the real question is; if all these publications are talking about it; there must be a demand for it. Why is ET Tonight the #1 show in the Country and People Magazine still sits in the top 3 publications in the US?

Media outlets will typically want more views to get more advertising on their website/publication/channel, so they have to keep producing hot content. The recipe is simple: more clicks will provide a higher revenue + a higher level of influence in their community which provides more revenue and so on and so forth.

The main question I keep asking myself is why is there such a high demand for this type of news and why do people feel like they need to talk about other people’s personal lives while judging, commenting and taking positions? Please note that I’m not talking about political, inspirational, financial or local news that may or may not affect your day to day; I’m talking about investing time in discussing other people’s lives: mainly celebrities.

After long days and dark nights of reflection, my mind always circled back to these 3 words: boredom, dream and entertainment.

The dictionary definition of a dream:

· an unrealistic or self-deluding fantasy.

The dictionary definition of boredom:

· the state of being weary and restless through lack of interest.

I remember being younger and getting drawn into arguments about who’s the best rapper dead or alive, seasonal stats of a professional athlete/sport’s team or even an actor/actress’s movie performance (was this worth an Oscar nomination?).

I’ll even go as far as to say that sometimes, it would make me feel good to see one of them fail. It kind of made me feel better about myself. Still, while I was chit-chatting about these people that had no direct impact on my life; they were still doing their own thing perfecting their own legacy as athletes or entertainers.

The dictionary definition of entertainment:

· the action of providing or being provided with amusement or enjoyment.

Something I realized:

While not finding success in some of the projects I’d undertake: I would experience boredom, find refuge in my dreams while avoiding reality through entertainment.

This is an important symptom that I’m witnessing throughout society and I believe that it needs to be addressed.

I’ve been writing bits and pieces on this subject for many articles now, but I’ve never really addressed the actual disease; only various symptoms.

Clearly, entertainment has a role to play in our society: whether it’s there to fulfill our loneliness, tackle boredom, escape reality for a moment, blind us from harsh realities, inspire us or numb the masses to what’s going on behind the scenes; entertainment plays an important part of our lives.

The critical issue I see is this: the amount of energy committed to it.

Will you “Netflix & Chill” every night with your lover until death do you part? Seems like a good use of your time considering that you only have one life to live on this Earth as Mr. & Mrs. X.

Will you talk about other people’s projects by fear of bringing up your own dream in the mix? Do you think your project is too small, too stupid, too real, too big to tackle or just non-existent?

Will you put all the energy you’ve been blessed with into yelling, arguing and chatting about what happened to musicians/athletes/sports teams/celebrities you’ve never met, or will you take this energy to do what’s calling deep down inside your gut?

- Pay attention, it’s far down, you can barely hear it but I’m sure it’s down there somewhere. Are you scared of what you may find?

Is it possible that you haven’t found what you’re passionate about yet? Is it possible that instead of digging deep inside yourself, you got blind-sided by entertainment and small talks?

Does small talk fulfill you or is it just a temporary relief like Cortisone?

Are you scared that your entourage may judge you for trying something out of “THEIR” comfort zone?

I apologize but I really feel the need to repeat this line one more time:

Are you scared that your entourage may judge you for trying something out of “THEIR”comfort zone?

Everyone tends to talk about what’s entertaining because it’s all up in our face every single day; it is therefore easy to reach into these subjects to avoid some of the realities we are faced with.

It’s cool if you want to identify yourself to superstars, but at what cost? Limited time? Limited energy? Limited resources? Hopeless dreams?

Lately, I’ve had the chance to spend time with some known and less known successful people and here’s one thing they all seem to have in common: they simply don’t talk or pay attention to what’s entertaining out there because they’re too damn busy building their own legacy and living their own dreams.

It’s a mindset; it’s how you condition yourself.

I remember someone walking up to me after a talk I gave at Influence Toronto and asked me:

“Have you ever had the chance to meet Elon Musk?”

Me: “Not yet but I could meet him through contacts, there is no urgency at the moment”

Him: “Man you’d be so lucky to meet him!”

Me: “Maybe so, although I feel that he would be equally as lucky to meet me; we could certainly learn from one another”

Him: “Wow, ok…”

And that’s how I truly feel. We all have something special to offer and no amount of hits, clicks or views will determine if I put someone on a pedestal. We must think high of ourselves first and build a foundation to give back because that’s what winners do.

Dream:

· A realistic fantasy that can materialize.

Boredom:

· The state of being excited and restless to find new interests when free time occurs.

Entertainment:

· The action of providing inspiration to anyone bored & in need of a dream.

Merry Xmas
